Filed: 12/17/15 Issued: 7/13/21 An absorbent article, comprising: a longitudinal axis; a transversal axis; a topsheet layer; a backsheet layer; optionally one or more intermediate layers enclosed between said topsheet and said backsheet; and an undergarment fastening adhesive applied in a pattern on an exterior surface of said backsheet, the pattern extending from a front end portion through a central portion and a rear end portion of the absorbent article; wherein said backsheet layer comprises a plastic film having a basis weight of less than 22 grams per square meter; wherein said plastic film is an outermost layer of said absorbent article; wherein said pattern comprises a plurality of separate, spaced apart geometric figures comprising a length and a width, some of the plurality of separate, spaced apart geometric figures being disposed in the front end portion, others of the plurality of separate, spaced apart geometric figures disposed in the rear end portion, and the remainder of the plurality of separate, spaced apart geometric figures disposed in the central portion, and the pattern further comprising at least one undergarment fastening adhesive free area disposed between each of the separate, spaced apart geometric figures, wherein the adhesive free areas have a width of from about 1 mm to about 10 mm; wherein said length is oriented substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said article; and wherein said adhesive is applied in said pattern on substantially an entirety of said backsheet so that more than 50% of the total surface of the area where the adhesive pattern is present is covered by adhesive.
